GDNF Background

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) is a glycosylated, disulfide-bonded homodimer that is a distantly related member of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily. It potently promotes the survival of of peripheral and central neurons. It signals through GFRα receptors, particularly GFRα1. Neuronal subpopulations that have been shown to be affected by GDNF include motoneurons, midbrain dopaminergic neurons, Purkinje cells and sympathetic neurons.

Acro Biosystems' GDNF recombinant protein has proven to be a reliable and high-quality reagent for research focused on neuronal development and maturation. In my study involving cortical projection neuron cultures, GDNF consistently supported neuronal survival, neurite outgrowth, and the expression of maturation markers. Its batch-to-batch consistency and biological activity have made it an essential component in our differentiation protocols. I highly recommend this product to laboratories engaged in both fundamental neuroscience research and translational studies aiming to model neurodegenerative diseases or explore neuroprotective strategies.
